Prestigious Sustainability Recognition

This year marked the inaugural announcement of TIME and Statista’s “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024” list. The evaluation included 5,000 prominent global companies, with the final list highlighting the top 500 worldwide and 15 companies from Korea. The assessment comprised over 20 performance indicators related to sustainability and company-disclosed data. Hankook Tire received positive evaluations across major criteria, affirming its leading global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) competitiveness.

Climate Leadership in Asia-Pacific

The “Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2024” list by the Financial Times and Statista evaluated companies based on their greenhouse gas emissions reductions relative to sales from 2018 to 2023. It also considered achievements recognised by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which supports companies in setting targets aligned with the latest climate science. Among Korean companies, Hankook Tire achieved a commendable second-place ranking.

Commitment to Sustainable Management

Hankook Tire places significant emphasis on strengthening sustainable management across its organisation. Through a robust sustainable business and ESG management system, the company actively promotes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire product lifecycle. This encompasses raw material acquisition, manufacturing, sales, use, recycling, and disposal. The company has implemented various efforts, such as using renewable energy, optimising energy efficiency, improving facility operations, and introducing new energy technologies.

Innovation in Sustainable Products

Hankook Tire is also dedicated to developing sustainable products through innovative technology research. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is meticulously conducted throughout the manufacturing process, including techniques for tyre weight optimisation and the use of 3D printing technologies. In August of last year, Hankook Tire became the first company in the Korean tyre industry to receive approval for its carbon reduction targets from the SBTi.

Global Achievements and Future Plans

Hankook Tire’s achievements in sustainable management are extensive. The company’s Geumsan plant in Korea was the first in the industry to attain the prestigious International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS in 2021. Following this, the Rácalmás plant in Hungary achieved the same certification in September last year. These accomplishments are leading the global tyre industry towards sustainable management by expanding the application of sustainable raw materials.

Looking ahead, Hankook Tire plans to solidify its role as a global leader in sustainable management and continue its innovative ESG achievements across various fields.
