Nokian Tyres reached new heights in 2024, achieving production records and strengthening its presence in the North American market. The company's Dayton, Tennessee factory, which began operations in 2019, had its best production year ever, setting monthly output highs in October and November.
North American Production Milestones
The Dayton facility played a pivotal role in the company’s success, producing all-season and all-weather tyres tailored to the region. This summer, the factory added a highly automated warehouse capable of storing hundreds of thousands of tyres, boosting efficiency and meeting growing demand.
Vice President of Passenger Car Tyres, Lauri Halme, praised the team’s efforts:
“The energy in the Dayton team is really positive and has been growing throughout the year. We are improving productivity…week-to-week and month-to-month, which brings a lot of confidence to the team.”
The factory also enhanced its light-truck tyre production, bringing back popular models such as the Nokian Tyres Outpost nAT and Nokian Tyres One HT, catering to SUV, pickup, and all-terrain drivers.
A Remedy for Four-Season Driving
2024 saw the successful launch of the Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5, the company’s sixth-generation all-weather tyre. Introduced in January, the WRG5 has been a standout, offering year-round performance, especially in areas with wintry conditions.
Tommi Heinonen, Vice President of Sales for Nokian Tyres North America, highlighted its success:
“It has been a home run – the performance is great. We have already been doing all-weather tyres for 25 years, so it’s part of our bread and butter. We are very proud.”
In October, Nokian Tyres celebrated the 25th anniversary of its all-weather passenger tyre innovation with “All-Weather Week,” a nod to the company’s pioneering role in the segment since 1999.
Strengthened Customer Partnerships
Amidst challenging market conditions, Nokian Tyres focused on building strong relationships with its customers by improving product availability and launching initiatives to support dealers.
Looking ahead, Nokian Tyres continues to invest in its production and supply chain. The company plans to start commercial production at its new factory in Oradea, Romania in early 2025, further expanding its global footprint.
Halme emphasised the importance of collaboration:
“Our success is built on the success of our customers, so we need to see that our customers are successful. We have been close to our customer base, and [as] the market turns, we will be there to support our customers. The market will turn for sure.”
