Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced that its premium ADVAN V61 tyres will serve as the original equipment (OE) for Mazda Motor Corporation’s new three-row mid-size crossover, the Mazda CX-80. This crossover SUV will be available from October 2024 in markets including Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, with two tyre options: 235/60R18 103V and 235/60R18 107V.
The ADVAN V61 tyre is part of Yokohama’s flagship ADVAN line, renowned for delivering superior handling alongside a quiet and comfortable driving experience. The tyre is designed to ensure high wear resistance and exceptional performance in wet conditions, making it an ideal match for the Mazda CX-80’s robust performance needs. In addition, the tyre’s low rolling resistance enhances fuel efficiency without sacrificing other critical features.
Yokohama developed the ADVAN V61 tyres specifically for the Mazda CX-80, using their proprietary AI-driven framework, HAICoLab. This innovative system—an acronym for “Humans and AI Collaborate”—utilises artificial intelligence to merge human ingenuity with vast data processing, providing advanced predictive and analytical capabilities. Through HAICoLab, Yokohama optimised the ADVAN V61’s tread pattern, profile, and structure to harmonise with the CX-80’s design and performance.
One notable feature of the ADVAN V61 is its noise reduction, achieved through the use of genetic algorithms that determine an optimal pitch sequence, which enhances cabin quietness. This evolution in tyre development enables Yokohama to blend a smooth, quiet ride with superior performance, even on wet roads.
The collaboration with Mazda supports Yokohama Rubber’s medium-term management plan, Yokohama Transformation 2026 (YX2026), which aims to increase the sales of high-value tyres. Key components of this strategy include expanding the reach of the ADVAN brand and promoting GEOLANDAR tyres for SUVs and pickup trucks as original equipment.
By leveraging the ADVAN V61’s performance capabilities, Yokohama underscores its commitment to innovation and quality within the global automotive market. The Mazda CX-80, equipped with these tyres, promises an enhanced driving experience that blends performance, safety, and passenger comfort.
