The partnership comes on the heels of TyreSafe’s 2023 Tread Depth Survey, which uncovered alarming statistics regarding tyre safety in Liverpool. According to the survey, over 20% of tyres inspected at the time of replacement in Liverpool were found to be below the legal tread depth limit of 1.6mm. This finding underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and preventative measures to reduce the risk of tyre-related accidents.

A Joint Effort to Enhance Road Safety

By joining forces, TyreSafe and Liverpool City Council aim to educate drivers about the importance of tyre maintenance and its direct impact on road safety. Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: “We are delighted to welcome Liverpool City Council as a partner in our mission to improve road safety. With over 20% of tyres in the area falling below the legal tread depth, this partnership will play a crucial role in educating road users about the importance of regular tyre checks and maintenance. Together, we can make a real difference in reducing the number of tyre-related incidents and breakdowns on our roads.”

Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity at Liverpool City Council, also highlighted the partnership's importance. He said, “Tyre safety is a key component of our road safety strategy. By partnering with TyreSafe, we are reinforcing our commitment to making Liverpool’s roads safer for all. This initiative will not only raise awareness but also provide our residents with the knowledge and tools they need to ensure their tyres are roadworthy, helping to reduce incidents and promote safer driving across the city.”

Driving Change Through Education and Resources

As part of this collaboration, Liverpool City Council will incorporate tyre safety messages into its road safety campaigns and educational programmes. TyreSafe’s free-to-use materials, such as leaflets, posters, and digital content, will be available for local distribution. These resources are designed to inform drivers about the risks associated with worn tyres and to encourage regular tyre maintenance.

The partnership aims to create a lasting impact by equipping Liverpool residents with the knowledge they need to stay safe on the roads.
