The Pirelli CyberTM Tyre is a marvel of modern engineering, featuring embedded sensors that communicate with the car's electronic control unit via Bluetooth. This real-time data exchange allows the vehicle to adjust its driving mode to optimise the tyre's capabilities. For instance, when equipped with winter tyres, the system enhances ABS performance to reduce stopping distances. Similarly, with semi-slick tyres, the system adjusts traction control to leverage the increased grip, thereby enhancing both stability and performance.
This sophisticated dialogue between tyre and vehicle ensures that the car’s dynamic systems operate with maximum efficiency, providing an unprecedented level of safety and performance tailored to the specific tyres in use.
Pirelli's innovations extend beyond connectivity, with a strong focus on sustainability. By 2026, all natural rubber used in Pirelli’s European factories will be FSCTM-certified. This certification guarantees that the rubber is sourced from plantations managed to preserve biodiversity and support local communities. Pirelli’s commitment to sustainable materials is further highlighted by their new partnership with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), supplying FSCTM-certified tyres across JLR’s luxury vehicle portfolio. Pirelli's dedication to environmental stewardship is not new. The company introduced the world’s first roadgoing tyre using FSCTM-certified natural rubber and rayon in 2021. They continued this trend in 2024, bringing FSCTM-certified rubber to Formula 1, and recently to cycling with the Pirelli P Zero Race RS2.
Leveraging virtualisation and artificial intelligence, Pirelli accelerates its product and technology development. Significant investments, amounting to 5.5% of the revenue from high-value tyre sales, bolster Pirelli’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) market. Notably, the P Zero E3 tyre, launched in 2023, features over 55% bio-based and recycled materials and boasts a triple A rating on the European tyre label.
The newly launched P Zero Winter 2 Elect4, containing more than 50% sustainable materials, further demonstrates Pirelli's ongoing commitment to reducing fossil-based content in favour of natural or recycled materials. A bespoke logo on the tyre sidewalls identifies these eco-friendly products, ensuring customers can make informed choices.
Pirelli's latest innovations mark significant milestones in the tyre industry, blending cutting-edge technology with sustainability. The CyberTM Tyre's debut on the Pagani Utopia sets a new standard for performance and safety, while the company's ongoing commitment to sustainable practices underscores its leadership in environmental responsibility. As Pirelli continues to push the boundaries of tyre technology, both connectivity and sustainability remain at the heart of its mission.
