Transaid, Goodyear’s charity partner, focuses on improving rural access to healthcare and ensuring the safety of professional drivers across Africa. The funds raised from the tournament will support Transaid's essential programmes, which are making a significant impact in several African countries.

One of the standout initiatives supported by Transaid is the Professional Driver Training programme. This programme has been instrumental in promoting road safety and ensuring that professional drivers can leave for work with confidence. The programme is currently active in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, with a notable expansion to Mozambique in 2021. Among the trainees is Nahabwe Sharon Kinyatta, a female driver who is part of Uganda's Phase Two of the programme, highlighting Transaid's commitment to gender inclusivity and professional development.

Transaid's road safety efforts are complemented by their innovative MAMaZ Against Malaria (MAM) at Scale programme. This community-led initiative has significantly expanded its reach, now covering ten districts and benefiting a population of one million people. The programme addresses severe malaria and COVID-19 responses, proving to be a lifeline for many.

A crucial component of the MAM at Scale programme is the Emergency Transport Schemes (ETS), which provides a vital link between rural communities and health services. ETS riders, who are volunteers, utilise bicycle ambulances to transport individuals to health facilities during medical emergencies.

"The bicycle ambulance is the best thing that has happened to this community. I see people going about their daily lives in my community who otherwise wouldn't be alive today."

The Transaid Cup 2024, hosted by Microlise and Libra Europe, is more than just a football tournament; it is an opportunity to make a real difference. With the community’s support, Transaid can continue to transform lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport solutions. For those interested in contributing to this cause, more information on how to donate and support these vital programmes is available at the provided link.

By coming together for this event, the Goodyear UK team and supporters can help ensure that Transaid’s critical work in Africa not only continues but thrives, paving the way for safer roads and healthier communities.
