BKT, a global leader in the off-highway tyre industry, has released its Sustainability Report for the financial year 2023-24, titled Promoting Sustainable Growth with Off-Highway Excellence. As the company's third sustainability report and second verified Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report (BRSR), it reflects BKT’s measurable and robust commitment to sustainable development across its supply chain and community impact efforts.

The report adheres to the internationally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and is independently verified by Bureau Veritas, underscoring the credibility and transparency of the report’s content.

Key Sustainability Highlights

BKT’s Sustainability Report details significant progress in several areas, including energy reduction, circular waste management, biodiversity, and water conservation. Among the major achievements:

  • Emission Reduction: The company reduced non-renewable electricity consumption by 26%, increasing renewable energy use by 6% and cutting total CO₂ emissions by 28,000 tonnes.
  • Circular Economy: BKT reported that 99% of its waste was recycled or reused, marking a 33% increase in recycling and a 22% reduction in plastic waste.
  • Biodiversity and Water Conservation: With a focus on areas affected by water stress, BKT reduced water withdrawal by 43% and planted 25,000 trees to support biodiversity.
  • Sustainable Materials: Over 91,000 tonnes of renewable materials were utilised in key products.

Commitment to Social Responsibility and Community Investment

The report also details BKT's dedication to social responsibility, which includes a responsible supply chain approach that enforces strict environmental and human rights standards among suppliers. To support and train its workforce, BKT provided over 350,000 hours of training and invested more than €3.4 million across 21 corporate responsibility projects, benefiting communities around its production facilities.

Rajiv Poddar, Joint Managing Director of BKT, underscored the company’s approach, stating, "Sustainability, for us, is not just a word, but a tangible and measurable commitment. Every initiative we undertake is designed to generate a positive impact, not only on the environment, but also on the people and communities around us."

He also addressed industry preconceptions, particularly around companies with manufacturing facilities outside Europe, explaining, "What really matters are the facts. And the facts, as our recent report shows, are clear and verifiable." Poddar emphasised BKT’s connection to its roots in India, pledging to support fair wages and local development, adding, "India is part of our DNA, and it is here that we invest to ensure fair wages and to promote lasting economic and social development."
