Yokohama has been announced as the exclusive tyre supplier for the Scottish Fiesta ST Cup in a new multi-year deal. The championship, which has a long-standing history in Scottish motorsport, will feature Yokohama’s ADVAN A050 tyres from the start of its 2025 season.

The Japanese tyre manufacturer claims that the ADVAN A050 provides “superior levels of cornering, braking, and traction,” making it an ideal choice for the highly competitive nature of the series. Yokohama has previously supplied tyres to the championship, which saw over 20 drivers competing in 2024, and this deal signals its return to a series that attracts both experienced racers and new talent.

The Scottish Fiesta ST Cup, part of the Scottish Motor Racing Club’s (SMRC) calendar, will consist of 12 rounds across six events in 2025. The season begins on 6th April at Knockhill, with an away round scheduled for Cadwell Park in June.

According to Simon Clarke, motorsport tyre technician at Yokohama, the drivers played a key role in the decision to appoint the brand as the sole tyre supplier. Clarke said:

"Yokohama’s commitment to grassroots motorsport is further increased with this latest deal to be the single tyre supplier to the Scottish Fiesta ST Cup. It’s especially pleasing to know that the drivers wanted Yokohama to be the new tyre supplier.”

The series, which has been a platform for local motorsport talent for over two decades, continues to attract a diverse range of participants. In 2024, competitors ranged from 16 to 71 years of age, with organisers highlighting the championship’s ability to bring together seasoned veterans and young hopefuls.

Becky Smith, a championship representative for the drivers, commented on Yokohama’s appointment:

"Fiesta racing has been a mainstay of Scottish motorsport for over 20 years, beginning with the XR2 model, and has helped launch the careers of some of Scotland’s top racing drivers, including Gordon Shedden, Aiden Moffat, and Rory Butcher. Who knows, Yokohama could help unearth the next generation of homegrown racing talent.”

The tyres being supplied for the championship will be Yokohama’s ADVAN A050, sized 195/50R15. The tyre, which the company describes as “designed for quicker lap times,” features a large centre block and optimised groove distribution for better handling and grip.

While Yokohama has emphasised its commitment to grassroots motorsport, the move also positions the brand as a visible player in the motorsport scene. The Scottish Fiesta ST Cup has a strong following and is known for its close racing, with drivers battling it out in nearly identical cars.

The deal reflects a growing trend of motorsport championships opting for single-tyre supplier agreements, which ensure consistency across the field and help to manage costs for competitors. The use of premium tyres such as the ADVAN A050 is likely to set a high standard for the championship’s future, although it remains to be seen how the tyre’s performance will affect the racing dynamics.
