Orion installs tyre pyrolysis oil tanks at Polish plant

Specialty chemicals producer Orion is enhancing its manufacturing processes by installing multiple tyre pyrolysis oil (TPO) tanks at its plant in Jaslo, Poland. This development supports an increase in the production of circular carbon black.

The new tanks will store TPO delivered to the plant, which will then be pumped to furnace black reactors to be converted into circular carbon black. Orion is noted for being the only producer in its industry to manufacture carbon black entirely from TPO, addressing the recycling challenges and environmental impact of tyre waste.

This initiative is part of Orion’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing, supported by collaborations with other organisations focused on environmental stewardship, particularly those involved in TPO production. Pedro Riveros, senior vice president of global rubber carbon black at Orion, commented, “Our partnership with TPO producers underscores our shared commitment to sustainability and innovation. Through collective action, we are making positive changes across the industry value chain, from tyre waste management to resource recovery.”

Orion's efforts in sustainable manufacturing practices reinforce its position in the specialty chemicals sector while contributing to the broader goal of reducing tyre waste and promoting environmental sustainability.
