Warrington’s Own Buses is moving closer to a fully electric future, with its ongoing replacement of 105 diesel buses with Volvo BZL Electric models. Every bus in this zero-emission fleet is fitted with MICHELIN X InCity EV Z tyres, thanks to the operator’s exclusive tyre policy with Michelin’s Services & Solutions division, which began in 2022.

The fleet transition, expected to complete by March 2025, aims to eliminate tailpipe emissions while improving operational sustainability. Warrington’s Own Buses, a municipally-owned company with roots dating back to 1902, provides over six million passenger journeys annually across Cheshire.

David Woods, Finance Director at Warrington’s Own Buses, expressed confidence in the partnership with Michelin, saying:

“Having a partner like Michelin on board, who we know we can rely on, offers great peace of mind. We know the new vehicles are operating on the best tyres possible, that are ultra durable and stand the test of time, ensuring we keep any unnecessary downtime to a minimum.”

The MICHELIN X InCity EV Z tyres, specifically designed for electric and combustion engine buses, enhance fleet efficiency. These tyres support heavy EV loads with a capacity of up to 8 tonnes, reduce rolling resistance to maximise range, and integrate advanced technologies like InfiniCoil, Forcion, and Regenion for extended mileage.

The public transport operator moved to an exclusive tyre policy with Michelin’s Services & Solutions division in 2022.

Michelin’s ‘Superfit’ policy ensures comprehensive service, including tyre supply, fleet-wide inspections, and tyre fitting at Warrington’s new EV depot. This contract underscores Michelin’s commitment to improving sustainability and operational performance for fleets.

As Woods noted, the tyres simplify operations by maintaining uniformity across the single and double-decker buses, adding:

“Michelin have been very professional and offered us a good level of service since we moved across from our old provider. It has proved to be a very good decision for our business.”

This partnership strengthens Warrington’s Own Buses’ efforts to enhance sustainability while building on its legacy as a reliable public transport provider.
