In a recent notification released by the European Commission, Goodyear, the renowned tyre manufacturer, has issued a recall for 477 Dunlop motorcycle tyres due to potential safety hazards.
This recall affects the Sportmax Roadsmart III sports touring tyre, with concerns raised regarding tread detachment, which could result in a loss of control, posing risks to riders.
The voluntary recall, initiated by Goodyear-Dunlop, specifically targets the Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart III motorcycle tyre in size 120/70ZR17 M/C (58W). The affected tyres were produced during weeks 34, 35, 36, 46, and 47 of 2023 and can be identified through the following tyre identification numbers (TIN): 1DK8B 6F1M 3423, 1DK8B 6F1M 3523, 1DK8B 6F1M 3623, 1DK8B 6F1M 4623, and 1DK8B 6F1M 4723.
The reason behind the recall revolves around a manufacturing deviation leading to tread separation, potentially resulting in a loss of control for motorcycle riders. Although no accidents, damages, or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled tyres, Goodyear-Dunlop has taken proactive measures in line with its commitment to product quality and safety.
The company has outlined a clear process for handling the recalled tyres. Unsold tyres within inventories are not to be sold and must be returned to Goodyear. For those who have purchased these tyres, replacements will be provided free of charge or refunded. The company encourages immediate contact with end users to facilitate swift tyre replacements, ensuring the safety of riders.
End users who may have purchased the recalled tyres are urged to contact the company promptly to arrange tyre replacements. Retailers are advised to remove these tyres from any vehicles and replace them with new, safe tyres. Moreover, Goodyear assures consumers that the replacement process will be free of charge, with reimbursement for the cost of tyre installation.
