Kumho ECSTA PS71 has secured an 'Exemplary' rating in AutoBild's 2025 Summer Tyre Test, earning praise for its wet handling, braking performance, and cost efficiency.
AutoBild, one of Germany’s most trusted automotive publications, evaluated 52 summer tyres in size 225/40R18 as part of its annual summer tyre test. Kumho’s ECSTA PS71 finished in fourth place overall, making it one of the top-performing models in this year's line-up.
What particularly distinguished the ECSTA PS71 was its outstanding wet performance, where it outperformed all competitors. It was the only tyre to receive a top score of ‘1’ in the wet handling category, a testament to its reliable grip and confident control in challenging conditions. The tyre also demonstrated strong resistance to aquaplaning, maintaining stability and predictability on soaked surfaces.
Testers noted the tyre’s precise driving dynamics, short braking distances in both wet and dry scenarios, and impressive all-round handling. These attributes made the PS71 stand out not just for safety, but also for driver satisfaction.
Cost efficiency was another area where the PS71 performed well. According to the test, the tyre offered one of the best price-to-mileage ratios, delivering longevity without compromising on dynamic capability.
Designed as an ultra-high-performance (UHP) tyre, the ECSTA PS71 is engineered with a tread pattern optimised for water evacuation and a compound formulated to improve braking on wet roads. It also offers high-speed stability, making it suitable for both everyday driving and more spirited use.
Although Kumho is beginning to replace the ECSTA PS71 with its new ECSTA Sport model, variants like the PS71 SUV and PS71 EV will remain in the range.
Tony Gangseung Lee, Head of Europe at Kumho, commented:
“We are delighted with this result; even at the end of the ECSTA PS71 product lifecycle. We are confident that our newest product, ECSTA Sport, will live up to the outstanding legacy of ECSTA PS71.”
Matthias Bode, Head of Research & Development, Europe, added:
“AutoBild’s recognition of the ECSTA PS71’s outstanding performance reflects our commitment to innovation and delivering products that offer both high performance and value for money throughout their lifecycle. Our focus remains on developing tyre technologies that meet the evolving needs of drivers worldwide."
AutoBild’s tyre tests are highly influential in the industry, with their independent and rigorous evaluations offering trustworthy insights for consumers and professionals alike. The ECSTA PS71’s 'Exemplary' rating signals a strong endorsement of Kumho's engineering and its relevance in today's competitive market.
