New manufacturing hub to support global expansion

Jinyu Tire Group has officially commenced phase one of its new passenger car and light truck (PLT) tyre production facility in Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam. This move marks a strategic shift for the company, which has previously focused on truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres at the same location since 2021.

The Vietnam site is being developed in three phases. Once fully completed (targeted for the second half of 2026) it will have the capacity to produce 10 million PLT tyres annually. Phase one is expected to begin production by early 2025.

Trade and localisation strategy

Jinyu’s expansion into PLT production in Vietnam is driven in part by the growing importance of tariff-resilient manufacturing. By establishing operations outside China, the company aims to better access key export markets in Europe and North America, where trade barriers and import tariffs have increasingly influenced sourcing decisions.

This facility represents Jinyu’s re-entry into the PLT segment after a five-year pause, as the company broadens its product mix to meet varied market demands and fortify its international footprint.

Focus on advanced, sustainable manufacturing

According to the company, the new plant incorporates advanced process layouts, intelligent logistics systems, and manufacturing practices aimed at reducing carbon emissions. The facility is also positioned to create local employment opportunities and contribute to sustainable industrial development in Vietnam.

Regional trends in offshore capacity

Jinyu’s move aligns with a broader trend among Chinese tyre manufacturers, who are investing in production capacity in Southeast Asia and beyond. Similar investments from companies such as Sailun and ZC Rubber in Mexico, Cambodia, and Indonesia reflect an industry-wide response to shifting global trade dynamics.

The development of Jinyu’s PLT plant in Vietnam highlights a key transformation in tyre manufacturing strategy, the decoupling of production from domestic bases to navigate trade barriers and meet regional market demand more efficiently. As global OEMs and distributors seek resilience and proximity in their supply chains, offshore tyre plants with embedded sustainability measures and smart logistics are becoming strategic assets.
