Continental’s Automotive group sector has announced plans to establish its legally independent headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, reinforcing its presence in the Rhine-Main region. The decision follows last week’s Supervisory Board approval of the company’s spin-off, with the headquarters set to be operational at the current site in Guerickestraße by mid-2025.
The move will affect approximately 4,230 employees currently based in Frankfurt across production, research and development, and administration. As an independent entity, the Automotive sector is expected to drive innovation in electronic products and mobility solutions, with a stock exchange listing planned for September.
Philipp von Hirschheydt, Continental Executive Board member and head of the Automotive group sector, emphasised the strategic importance of the decision.
“We’re creating an independent, high-performing and globally positioned company defined by advanced technologies and innovative strength, a high level of adaptability to market and technology trends and a sharp entrepreneurial mindset. By choosing to locate our corporate headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, we’ve taken a further step toward independence and are underscoring our strong presence in the Rhine-Main region.”
The move has been welcomed by Frankfurt’s Mayor, Mike Josef, who highlighted the economic significance of the decision:
“In these challenging times, location decisions in the industrial sector are important for the stabilisation and development of our economy. In particular, with the decision to locate the headquarters of the future independent Automotive group sector in Frankfurt, Continental is strengthening the diversity and thus the resilience of our business location. We warmly welcome the new automotive company.”
With around 92,000 employees and reported sales of €19.4 billion in 2024, the independent Automotive group is positioned to be a major global player in automotive technology. The company has developed a strong market presence in sensor solutions, display systems, braking technology, and advanced software platforms—key components for the future of software-defined and autonomous vehicles.
The spin-off marks a significant milestone for Continental, allowing its Automotive sector to operate with greater flexibility and focus. As the automotive industry undergoes rapid transformation, Continental’s decision signals its commitment to innovation, digitalisation, and the future of mobility.
