Continental’s 2025 Realignment to Separate Group Sectors and Refocus Tyre Strategy
At its 2025 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in Hanover, Continental confirmed it will spin off its Automotive and ContiTech divisions into independent entities, reshaping its core structure and focusing Continental AG exclusively on the tyre sector. The most extensive transformation in the company’s history, the move is designed to unlock competitive advantages and enhance strategic clarity across each business.
Continental’s Automotive group sector will become a standalone company under the name Aumovio from September 2025. Designed to focus on software-based mobility, Aumovio will build on its existing partnerships with major OEMs and its €19 billion order book from 2024.
Key capabilities include:
Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of Automotive and future Aumovio CEO, described the business as agile, regionalised, and geared for sustained growth in vehicle digitalisation.
ContiTech will also become independent in 2026, with a focus on industrial applications. It has set a target for 80% of its business to come from industrial clients, moving away from OEM supply.
Recent highlights include:
Continental is exiting its Original Equipment Solutions unit, which provided rubber-based components to vehicle manufacturers, as part of the ContiTech pivot.
Post-spin off, Continental AG will focus solely on its global tyre business, which includes:
By separating its sectors, Continental aims to improve operational focus and performance across each domain.
Continental’s structural overhaul underscores the increasing need for tyre manufacturers to streamline operations and focus on core strengths. For the tyre sector, this means Continental AG will be better positioned to respond to EV demands, sustainable manufacturing pressures, and digital integration within smart tyre ecosystems. The clear separation also mirrors broader industry trends, where modular business units are being spun off to maximise responsiveness and investment focus.
