Goodyear Celebrates 125 Years with Retro Rebranding at Donington GP

In a nostalgic nod to its storied past, Goodyear is set to unveil its retro branding at the upcoming Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Donington Park. This move is part of the tire giant's worldwide celebration of its 125th anniversary.

Donington Park, a historic circuit that first roared to life in 1931, is the perfect backdrop for this monumental occasion. As the BTCC gears up for its eighth weekend of the season on 26/27 August, fans and racers alike will be treated to a blast from the past.

The highlight of the celebration will be the reintroduction of Goodyear's first-ever Wingfoot logo. This iconic emblem, which was first designed in 1898, later became the inspiration behind the coveted Goodyear Wingfoot Award. This award is presented to BTCC drivers who showcase unmatched performance and consistency throughout a race weekend.

Goodyear's legacy in motorsport is unparalleled. Since its inception in 1898, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has been at the forefront of racing, boasting the highest number of Formula 1 victories, Le Mans triumphs, and a longstanding partnership with NASCAR.

In the realm of BTCC, Goodyear has been the exclusive tire supplier since 2020. Prior to this, its subsidiary brand, Dunlop, held the reins from 2003 to 2019. Both brands have been intertwined with the championship since its birth in 1958.

For the Donington weekend, the contemporary Goodyear branding that usually graces the BTCC tire sidewall and trackside will be replaced by the vintage Wingfoot logo. Earlier this year, Goodyear also showcased its retro branding at NASCAR's Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway and during European races at Nürburgring and Monza.

Michael Butler, Goodyear BTCC Event Leader, expressed his excitement, stating, "We're thrilled to offer fans a glimpse into Goodyear's rich heritage this weekend. The Wingfoot is not just a logo; it's a symbol of our unwavering commitment to excellence in motorsport."

Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive, echoed these sentiments, saying, "We are honored that Goodyear has chosen the BTCC race weekend at Donington Park to commemorate its 125th anniversary in the UK. Our partnership with Goodyear is one of the longest-standing in motorsport history, and we look forward to many more years of collaboration."
