Eleven employees were hospitalised following a significant fire at Goodyear’s Luxembourg facility on Monday afternoon. The fire broke out around 14:00 at the site on Avenue Gordon Smith in Colmar-Berg, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
According to a press release from Luxembourg’s emergency services, CGDIS, the blaze originated in two production machines used to process raw materials for tyre manufacturing. The fire then spread to a nearby filtering installation.
Firefighters swiftly evacuated employees, and drivers were urged to avoid the area. A total of 120 firefighters were deployed to control and extinguish the flames, with efforts continuing until late afternoon.
While 23 employees were assessed for possible smoke inhalation on-site, 11 were transported to three different hospitals across Luxembourg for further evaluation.
No updates on the condition of the affected employees or the extent of the damage to the facility have been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the impact on Goodyear’s operations at the site is yet to be determined.
