Wheely-Safe Solution Drives Safety and Efficiency Upgrades at Timberpak

Timberpak, the renowned recycling and reprocessing business, is deploying state-of-the-art Wheely-Safe technology across its fleet of trucks and trailers. The move follows a successful trial of the innovative in-motion wheel loss detection system, which integrates brake and hub temperature monitoring with an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Gordon Argo, Transport and Operations Manager at Timberpak, expressed his satisfaction with the technology, stating, "We had it running on one vehicle to begin with and were very impressed. This is the only technology I've come across that offers the complete package, alerting you to any issues with the wheel nuts, the tyre pressures, and the temperature in the hub. It's very easy to use too."

Timberpak's diverse fleet, often navigating rough terrains to collect wood for recycling into chipboard for sister company EGGER UK, faces challenges like tyre punctures and damage. Argo highlighted the significance of Wheely-Safe's wheel loss element, citing a recent incident where a wheel came close to detachment due to over-torquing. He emphasized the peace of mind and added benefits in terms of fuel efficiency and cost savings, with the technology maintaining optimal tyre pressures.

Wheely-Safe's user-friendly technology involves the installation of external TPMS sensors, replacing standard valve caps. These sensors auto-pair with an in-cab solar receiver, alongside a pair of wheel loss sensors and brackets on each wheel. These components transmit an in-motion alert to the receiver in the cab if wheel nuts begin to loosen, simultaneously monitoring heat for early detection of abnormalities from brakes or hubs.

Currently operational on 12 vehicles, Timberpak plans to extend the Wheely-Safe system across its entire 23-vehicle fleet during future replacements. With recycling sites in Washington, Leeds, St Albans, and Bellshill, Timberpak has been a vital contributor to EGGER UK's chipboard production, sourcing waste wood for over two decades.

This strategic adoption of Wheely-Safe technology aligns with Timberpak's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability across its fleet operations.
