Michelin, a global leader in tyre manufacturing, has announced the addition of a new size to its MICHELIN XTRA DEFEND range of construction tyres. The new size, 33.25 R 29, will be available in the market starting this month and is set to replace the MICHELIN X-Super Terrain + tyre in 800/80 R 29 by December 2023.
This latest addition has been specifically designed for the VOLVO A60H, recognized as the world's largest articulated dump truck. Primarily, this truck is utilized in mining and quarry operations, demanding robust and durable tyres to handle challenging terrains.
With this introduction, the MICHELIN XTRA DEFEND range now boasts a total of four references for the 80 series, including sizes 23.5 R 25, 26.5 R 25, 29.5 R 25, and the new 33.25 R 29. Additionally, the range offers two references for the 65 series: 750/65 R 25 and 875/65 R29. These tyres cater to both Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and the replacement market, with a special focus on retreadability.
One of the standout features of the MICHELIN XTRA DEFEND range is its exceptional traction. The design incorporates a minimum of 24.7%1 more metal mass, ensuring enhanced resistance against external aggressions. The reinforced casing and plies, coupled with sidewalls that are 15%2 thicker, further add to the tyre's durability. An innovative tread design ensures longevity, even under the most rigorous usage, attributed to its deep tread and a higher volume of rubber. Moreover, the natural rubber composition of the MICHELIN XTRA DEFEND 33.25 R 29 ensures reduced heat emissions, optimizing productivity levels for users.
Laurent GREPPI, the Product Category Manager at MICHELIN, shared insights on the new addition, stating, "The MICHELIN XTRA DEFEND is engineered to achieve productivity levels that peak at 385(3) metric tons per kilometer per hour (TKPH) during intensive cycles. Its protection capabilities are enhanced with a 69 mm tread depth and a fortified steel crown belt package. This ensures seamless mobility and extended lifespan across diverse terrains, from hard stones and highly abrasive surfaces to muddy soils."
This move by Michelin underscores its commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of the construction industry. As the demand for durable and efficient tyres grows, Michelin continues to lead the way with its advanced tyre solutions.
