Tesla’s Model 3 is the car most likely to need tyre replacements in Britain, according to new data published in Kwik Fit’s 2025 Maintenance Index.

The report, which is based on millions of tyre changes carried out across Kwik Fit’s nationwide network of over 600 centres, shows that the Model 3 topped the tyre wear rankings in 54 areas of the UK—more than double the number of any other vehicle.

In second place was the Citroen Berlingo, leading in 24 areas, followed by Tesla’s Model Y in 16 areas. When grouped by manufacturer, Tesla emerged as the brand with the highest tyre wear presence, topping the rankings in 70 locations.

Geographical differences in tyre wear

Kwik Fit’s data highlights how tyre wear patterns differ by location. In Enfield, for instance, the Tesla Model 3 had an index figure of 9.4—meaning it was nearly ten times more likely than average to need new tyres compared with its share of vehicles in the area.

Across London, the Model 3 was the leading car for tyre replacements in 14 of the capital’s 32 boroughs.

Why the Tesla Model 3?

The data doesn’t explain precisely why Tesla’s Model 3 features so prominently, but industry experts have previously pointed to factors such as vehicle weight, acceleration characteristics, and regenerative braking in electric vehicles potentially contributing to higher tyre wear.

Kwik Fit’s analysis uses an interactive map, allowing users to view the top three tyre-wearing models in each area. The index compares tyre replacement frequency against DVLA registration data. A figure of 1.0 represents average wear; anything above that shows above-average tyre changes.

Expert advice on tyre care

Commenting on the findings, Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit, said:
“We have more than 600 Kwik Fit centres across the country and see more than two million of the UK’s cars each year, covering EVs and hybrids as well as petrol and diesel models. As a result, we have a huge sample of data on tyre changes and other repairs on every make and model for our expert team to analyse. This, along with being independent of any one manufacturer, provides our analysts with a clearer and more comprehensive picture of the current condition of the UK car parc than almost anyone else in the motor industry.”

He added:

“Of course, while the Maintenance Index has highlighted those models which are most likely to have had new tyres fitted, our advice is consistent across all vehicles when it comes to tyre care. Keeping tyres at the correct pressure and regularly checking wheel alignment will both help prolong the life of the tyres and also ensure they hold the road effectively. Drivers neglect tyre care at their peril. It’s always vital to remember that regardless of all the other safety features on a car, they all rely on the tyres performing as expected.”

Other tyre wear hotspots

Alongside Tesla and Citroen models, the Mercedes CLA, Volvo XC40, BMW 4 Series and BMW 2 Series were also among the vehicles most frequently needing tyre replacements in certain areas.

The index also identified localised anomalies, with models such as the Suzuki Alto in Dundee, Vauxhall Adam in Torfaen, and MG ZS in Barking and Dagenham each ranking highest for tyre replacements in their specific locations—but not elsewhere.
